Negotiating with Honor, Case Study Example

Pages: 1

Words: 352

Case Study

Abigail’s poor planning caused her to not identify any alternative strategies. While she refused Sinbad initially, shequickly gave up and submitted to his demand. She did not attempt to negotiate; Sinbad may have agreed to take her for money. Sinbad was a businessman and would have most likely negotiated. If Abigail would have kept the interactionfinancial, she could have paid Sinbad or found someone else. Slug had no problem in finding a way across.

Abigail’s needto be with Gregory was so consuming that she lost sight of reality. Her laughter at the end may have been because Gregory was punished for hurting her. It was wrong for Abigail to sleep with Sinbad; the fact that she confessed indicates her desire to be honest. Gregory had every right to be angry with Abigail. Her actions were foolish and she violated their relationship.Gregory could have been more understanding, especially since he never attempted to cross the river. Perhaps he never really loved her? Vanawas either judgmental, or too afraid to speak her mind. She could have also been exasperated at Abigail’s lack of reasoning. Sinbad’s motivation was not complex. He saw an opportunity to be with a woman he desired, so he took it. Like Sinbad, Slug’s motivation was simple. Someone hurt his friend, so he made them pay. There may have even been a romantic interest.

The most honorable character is Slug. Though his actions were violent, he punished the man who hurt his friend.Vana did nothing wrong, but if she had been a better friend, she may have guided Abigail to a better alternative. Abigail’s intelligence is questionable, though her love for Gregory seems true. But even though her intentions may have been honorable, her actions were not. Sinbad was not honorableat all. His motives were base and he is portrayed in a bad light. Unlike Gregory, he never pretended to be anything other than what he was. Gregory abandoned the person he was supposed to love, showing no loyalty or compassion.
