Oral Language Evaluation Report, Assessment Example

Language background: Jessica is a third grade student at Bridge Gate Elementary School. She had trouble answering questions appropriately and has difficulty expressing herself in English language. According to her second grade report, the teacher was concerned that Jessica’s use of vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure does not match her age. The teacher reported that her oral reading skills and comprehension skills are slightly above average. In addition, her Math, Science, and Social Studies were also a concern. According to the report, Jessica was having trouble retaining vocabulary in the information text during Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. Furthermore, Jessica was performing below average on measure of passage reading fluency as compared to her classmates. Moreover, the teacher reported that Jessica was having difficulty completing passage compression tasks.

Jessica received the following tests.

Concept and following direction test: This subtest is utilized to assess the understudy’s capacity to decipher, review, reply, and execute oral summons of expanding length and many-sided quality that contain ideas of utilitarian dialect. The student obtains grades in response to oral direction. Jessica scored 12, which yielded a percentage of 30. This score fall on average score range.

Word class receptive test: This subset is used to evaluate the student’s ability to understand the relationship between words that share a variety of functional and conceptual relationship. The student is required to choose the items that best describe the desired relationship. Jessica scored 9 marks on word class receptive that yielded a percentage rank of 37. In this regard, the score fell on average range.

Recalling sentence: the subset is utilized to assess the understudy’s capacity to review and duplicate sentences of changing length and language structure buildings. The understudy is obliged to mimic the sentence introduced by the analyst. Jessica obtained a sore of 1, which yielded a percentage of 0.1.

Oral and written language scale

In some cases, the examiner describes a portion of a picture and the student responds by completing the description or by answering the question. The result shows that Jessica’s overall language skills fall in a moderate range. A discrepancy is noted between her receptive and expressive skills.

Jessica’s strength: following a complex direction presented orally, answering question about a short paragraph, and reading loud.

Jessica’s weakness:  repeating long sentences, and explaining how words are related.

The observation from the examiner and the language test results revealed that Jessica is below average in terms of language skills. This will affect her educational performance and therefore, she needs special attention from the tutors in order to improve the performance.
