Objectives
Background:
Seton Healthcare Family is a healthcare organization that is established by three particular individuals considered as the pillars of the organization’s work and passion to help the poor. Vincent de Paul, Louise de Marillac and Elizabeth Ann Seton primarily believed that while other healthcare organizations are solely dependent on whether or not the patients could pay for their services, Seton would become the comforting option for those who may not have the fortune to be accommodated by business-driven healthcare institutions in the society.
Seton at present operates with 5 major medical centers, which include 3 rural hospitals and 2 community hospitals, and a trauma center for adult and children. It also has a functioning dedicated center for pediatrics specifically handling medical operations for children of underprivileged families. It also has an established and well maintained mental health center and a center for recovery for patients they have already treated but are still in need of relative medical attention from the staff at a regular basis. To further the hope of extending help to the poor, Seton also operates under 3 primary healthcare facilities that are dedicated to uninsured individuals needing medical attention.
Explain how organizations function.
Seton Healthcare Family’s values and professional culture is largely dependent on their desire to follow a religious calling that they believe has placed them within the community’s existence and that is to serve the needs of the poor and the vulnerable. Given this particular foundation, it could be said that the organization’s operation is highly controlled under a hierarchy of command that includes the church as the primary administration.
Nevertheless, the members of the organization do not simply consider their work to be singularly religious. Instead, they believe that such privilege allows them to become the hope that the society needs especially when it comes to keeping the health of the people at an integral status.
Compare and contrast characteristics of leadership and management.
There are six primary elements that the organization depends their operations upon. One is dedication which involves the way the staff affirms the hope and joy they have towards the ministry they have especially in bringing good health to poor and vulnerable individuals. Another is that of reverence which constitutes their respect for life. Wisdom on the other hand invokes the members to specifically apply excellence and stewardship in their work. Integrity is applied so as to make sure that each member of the organization applies personal leadership that leads each person to become a part of the overall campaign of Seton for better health for all. Service to the poor is a cultural manifestation on how the organization intends all their operations to be applied for the sake of those who have less to spend on their healthcare needs. The last element that makes up Seton’s values is creativity which involves the desire of the organization to utilize innovation and technology to serve the needs of the people at best.
Through applying these values as they serve the people, Seton manages every operation with full accord to their central desire of reaching out to the poor and directly serving them with their needs. Relatively establishing alliance with other organizations who have the same basis of existence helps a lot in relation to this condition of operation.
Apply trends, issues, theories, and evidence as guidelines for management decisions.
Management decisions of any organization should be dependent on their primary cause of existence or purpose. While Seton aims to gain from some of its services to be able to fund its operations and maintain its facilities, the organization strongly relies on their desire to serve the needs of the poor individuals hence making it easier for them to manage their fees and other operational budgeting issues within the limits of their available funding. Considerably, Seton tries to find ways to reach out to other organizations and other institutions who are willing to support their campaign and hold better options of funding their operations and the maintenance of their facilities.
Patient-centered care is one of the most prominent operational theories that the organization uses when it comes to dealing with their patients. Relatively, this allows them to become more involved on what the patients need and how they should actually be treated and attended to. This particular culture also allows them to avoid any additional expenses that are often dedicated to creating solutions for particular points of malpractice. Utilizing modern technology and computer-generated information database, the people and staff members continue to follow a particular process that allows them to access needed data about specific patients which makes the medial operations more accurate and efficient.
Evaluate effectiveness of communication patterns using specific management situations.
Modern EHR or electronic health record programs keep the communication of the staff members, especially relating to the conditions of the patients, the organization is able to deliver good and affordable service to their target stakeholders. The poor need not fear of being set aside because of their incapably to pay anymore, instead, they could be confident that they are to be assisted according to their needs under the administration of proper medical practices by Seton staff members and medical representatives.
