Organizational Problems and System Thinking, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 309

Essay

Every organization today is faced by problems that affect their performance and relationships. These problems are a result of diverse origins and nature. Solving these problems require that the source of problems are to be addressed effectively instead of the consequences of the problems. This therefore requires that there is a holistic approach in handling organizational systems in solving organizational problems.

Some of the most occurring problems occurring in organizations are problems that are related to its system and how it works. A good example is how employees in the organization treat timing as a result of formed organizational culture. In our organization most employees report to work late as a result of the management of the organization not having serious punishment for employees who report to work late. This habit is mostly seen in senior employees who have been in the organization for long and have been affected by the organizational culture.

In addressing this problem, the most effective way that can be used is changing the system in the organization functions. Here, system thinking which involves focusing on the change of related feature as a result of change in another (Haines, 2000) can be useful in managing total change in the way that the problems in the organization can be addressed. For example, in this case performance of the organization which occurs as a result of employees in the organization reporting to work late can be addressed through making sure that no one in the organization has immunity from punishment. This problem of employees reporting to work late as a result of formed organizational culture can be addressed by not punishing late employees but putting in place organizational policies that are against such behavior or by simply rewarding employees who report to work early.
