Personal and Professional Life Long Learning, Essay Example

Words: 336

Essay

3b. Nurses are both caregivers and scientists, and to optimally perform our duties, we must engage in lifelong learning to continuously keep both our hearts and our minds enriched. We must ensure that we are emotionally grounded and have a strong spiritual connection. Nurses must also be updated about the latest research and technology in relation to healthcare.

3a. My relationship with God keeps my heart sated. He helps me to be more compassionate and non-judgmental towards all people. When I let Him into my heart, I began to see people differently. Even when I do not agree with certain actions or lifestyle choices, by keeping God in my heart, I am better able to see that each person is a miracle. I know that patients feel this in our hands when we care for them. We must care about them, not just for them.

3c. I do not think that having a spiritual walk is out of date at all. If anything, accepting God is gaining popularity. New pastors are preaching messages of love and compassion, as opposed to damnation and Hell-fire.  In my experience, most people respond well if you approach them in a loving manner.

3d. Nursing can be very draining, not just physically, but spiritually. We work long hours, often with little pay, and have to deal with disrespectful doctors, angry patients, and seemingly inhuman insurance companies. I like to take a few minutes and talk to God.Others may find solace in church, or spending time with children or animals.

4. Written communication helps to share knowledge and experiences. The APA style is commonly accepted by the scientific community. Proficiency in the APA style helps to ensure that our information is published inpeer-reviewed journals and can be built upon for future use.It also establishes a standard for which members of our profession must follow.

As nurses, we combine the unique blend of the latest technologies and scientific discoveries.  Yet we must always remember our humanity. By continuing to learn and grow, we can develop into better caregivers.
