Personal Time: The Patient’s Experience, Essay Example

The managed care system requires physicians to be proactive in working with their patients and not against them, using their knowledge and experience to make the most of difficult situations. With each patient’s experience, recovery is highly individualistic; therefore, this requires a period of adjustment that will capture the needs of patients and how physicians relate to these cases, and how they enable patients to move forward with their lives in a positive and meaningful way (Murray 58). This reflects a greater need to examine the different constructs of individual patient care and to recognize frameworks that will be used to adapt to circumstances that are beyond a patient’s control; in addition, this encourages physicians to apply their own principles of patience and encouragement in order to fully support their patients as best as possible (Murray 58). Patients each manage their illness in different ways; therefore, this requires their full support and guidance in order to establish a framework where successful outcomes will be achieved through the recovery phase, using physician support along the way to improve quality of life.

The unsung heroes in the medical field are represented by a number of different fields, all of whom work collaboratively with patients in order to achieve their goal of a full or manageable recovery path. This process requires professionals such as nurses, as they work in developing new techniques and strategies to enable patients to recover at an acceptable rate. However, nurses are only one part of the equation and may not always be the most critical component of this process; for example, patients must also gain support from others who provide some elements of care as part of a larger care plan, such as nursing assistants and technicians who administer tests and other tools, including phlebotomists and others in similar areas. It is often the case that a nursing assistant is the one individual who is able to get through to a patient and is able to provide a degree of support, a sense of humor, or an opportunity to convey the importance of recovery and how it might be achieved through their work in collaboration with the patient under consideration. Therefore, those working in an assisting capacity may serve as the unsung heroes and provide a level of encouragement that others are unable to achieve.

Based on personal experience, it is often difficult for physicians to relate to their patients on a personal level, and this is best examined through a larger framework in order to determine which methods will likely contribute to a higher degree of success for patients. This requires an examination of the principles of hope and opportunity that patients must receive from their caregivers, as these reflect a greater need to recognize the value of physician-based support in the healthcare setting. Physicians must be able to find a method that works for their individual needs in order to effectively communicate with patients at a high level. However, this also requires an examination of the different areas where physicians possess expert knowledge that must be conveyed to the patient population in a positive manner. There must be an appropriate strategy in place so that physicians are able to provide some degree of hope to their patients that the recovery process will lead to a positive outcome. This is required for patients with both terminal and chronic illnesses, as they require a means of coping that will enable them to improve their quality of life for as long as possible. Therefore, physicians must demonstrate compassion and understanding in order to provide an effective means of addressing patient circumstances in a successful manner to meet expectations and to encourage patients towards a more successful recovery.
