Essay

Plagiarism, simply defined, is a form of cheating which refers to the unauthorized use of any published or unpublished work. It means quoting another person’s words as your own. Copying, paraphrasing anduse of quotations without proper reference are all included in plagiarism. Copying materials from various sources and merging them into a single text is also plagiarism. The guideline to avoid plagiarism is as follows;

“Whether paraphrasing, quoting an author directly, or describing an idea that influenced your work, you must credit the source.” (American Psychological Association, 2009, p. 170)

Self-plagiarism is when a person submits his own previous work as new work, or when a student uses same piece of work for two or more classes without the permission of concerned professors.

Importance of honesty and integrity in the nursing profession

Honesty and integrity are very important features for a person in nursing profession. A nurse must be aware that how he / she behave at and even outside of his / her workplace, in their personal time, also influences their perceived ability to practice.

If you have an experience to share, reflect upon the consequences of a situation where a nurse did not exemplify integrity

In my personal life, I heard of an incident where the nurse spent a lot of her work time while talking on her mobile phone. She was often late in responding to calls from her patients and one day one of her patients got in a chronic condition because the nurse was not able to respond to the patient’s call on time and doctor was called late.

This in case of another nurse might have been excused but due to her previous reputation, of not giving her job the appropriate time, she was fired from the job.

Possible consequences for an IWU student if he/she is caught purposefully plagiarizing another author’s work.

Furthermore, a graduate student can face dismissal from the University for any Offence involvingunfair means for passing, which includes plagiarism. Above mentioned steps may be dispensed with, in case of a graduate student.
