This page on Mayo Clinic’s website provides introduction to Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) which is one of the major factors contributing towards the popularity of plastic surgery. I have chosen this source because I felt it is important to give introduction to BDD since BDD is not usually mentioned in the media or known to many. In addition to the basic introduction, the reader can also get other related information such as symptoms and treatment etc. on the website though for the purpose of this paper, only basic introduction was used. This information is reliable because the source is a leading national not-for-profit medical practice and research organization, thus, has high professional credibility.

This article also addresses one of the major contributors to the popularity of plastic surgery among teens which is the desire to escape bullying by peers. This article presents the story of Nadia Ilse, a 14-year old teen from Georgia who went under multiple plastic surgery procedures to enhance her appearance because she was called names due to her physical features such as ears. The article mentions the fact that peer bullying has led to rise in the number of cosmetic surgery procedures in both the U.S. and the U.K. I have chosen this article because it will enable me to mention another major factor which contributes towards cosmetic surgery as well as make recommendations that could reduce the episodes of cosmetic surgery due to bullying. This article was published on the website of one of U.K.’s leading newspapers The Telegraph, thus, it is credible because one can assume the newspaper to take appropriate measures to ensure the integrity of its publications.
