Porter Beer and Imperial Supplies, Essay Example

This was an alcoholic drink (beer) that was made out of a mixture of three different styles of alcoholic drinks; (1) stale or soured (old) ale, (2) pale or brown (new) ale, and (3) mild (weak) ale (Mason 68). There are numerous combinations of staleness and blends. This is the source of the name Three Threads. The name porter originated from Central London, where transportation workers (porters) were regular users of the drink (Unger). This was the first truly engineered beer.

Porter beer, i.e. its production, led to a significant surge and movement in technology. One of the most significant technological advancements in the production of alcoholic drinks is the use of the thermometer and the hydrometer in 1760 and 1770 respectively (Misa). The use of the hydrometer especially influenced the quality of latter porter beers.

Imperial Supplies

These are supplies for the Imperial state that were transported employing steamers in India. These supplies were the essentials that were required by the empire in ruling and governing the India, then a colony of the British Empire. These supplies included weapons (guns), tax receipts, stationery, official documents and medicines (Mason 101).

Imperial supplies played an important role in affecting technology at the time. One of the most significant technological advancements was the introduction of steam boats in India (Misa 105). These were crucial in helping with transportation into areas that were not properly road networked. The supplies also introduced essential tools of war and management into India. Weapons, such as guns were introduced with imperial supplies. These significantly affected India and its history, i.e. especially during the struggle for independence and the move towards effective and efficient transportation.
