Positive Environment in Corrections, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 279

Essay

An unpleasant working environment in the correctional facility influenced each and every individual, including staff members and inmates. Staff members who are employed to establish control within an institution, provide care and custody have different approach toward every situation. I believe that the well-being of inmates and their positive environment depends on the correction facility staff, for they are the ones who allow and secure everything that inmates actually do. Therefore, it is essentially important to maintain a high level of moral for the employees so they can successfully fulfill their duties.

The fist vital things for maintaining a positive environment within a corrections facility would be education and training service. Training is necessary for the staff members so they may be capable of protecting themselves, those in their care and the whole facility they are working at. On the other hand, inmates need training in terms of education, thus visiting certain classes where they can gain knowledge and skills necessary for appropriate social interaction with other inmates or facility staff members. The information which they obtain is predetermined to focus them on positive behavior and eliminate negative behavior. Providing a safer environment through education and training is a primary goal of correction facilities. Anyways, inmates must be provided any kind of learning material, so they can efficiently spend their leisure time and not just hang around doing nothing, thus acquiring aggression. Architecture and landscape can also provide therapeutic and restorative effects both to staff members and inmates, thus being physically and psychologically beneficial in terms of alleviating mental fatigue and reducing stress.
