Posner’s Five Exemplary Leadership Behaviors, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 341

Essay

As a leader, I believe that meetings are best structured with a manageable and productive number of participants. Meetings are usually designed to provide a platform for the exchange of information from one level of management to another, or across the same level of management. When meetings exceed 10 people, the session ceases to be a dialogue, but instead becomes a series of monologues dominated by a minority of the population of participants. Communication is usually seamless when the participants are kept at a minimum. The most ideal size would be a minimum of 10 individuals.

I have an acute sense of private awareness. This has been achieved through years of applying different stress management and meditation techniques. Frequent physical activity supplements these techniques to develop a healthier body to help balance biological and hormonal processes within the body. Keeping a healthy body, frequently meditating and applying relaxation techniques have helped develop an awareness of other’s perceptions of my leadership styles. Applying aspects of critical thinking is vital to the continual development of public awareness.

Taking into consideration Posner’s five exemplary leadership behaviors, I believe my colleagues would give a strong rating on three traits (model the way, enable others to act, and inspire a shared vision) and an average rating on two (encourage the heart and challenge the process). I believe there is a gap between my self-perception and my colleagues’ perceptions of my leadership qualities. My opinion towards my leadership traits would be biased, inclining towards a perfect leader. However, colleagues notice incidences where I fail to meet these standards without my conscious knowledge. My colleagues would probable give a poor rating on challenging the process and encouraging the heart.

This can be helpful to managers across all levels. the five practices can be employed a leadership standards.
