Programs for Adult Offenders, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 262

Essay

Adult offenders are usually provided with a variety of programs that help criminals to reconsider their lifestyles and understand the consequences of illegal activity. Adult Education Programs, Community Based Programs, Correctional Education, Correctional Rehabilitation, and Employment Programs are designed to lighten prisoner’s life in jail or offer several opportunities to escape from obtaining criminal records. Unfortunately, it is rather difficult to choose an effective program from the list of available ones to fit the inmate.

The first difficulty lies in the range of committed crimes. For instance, Community Work Service Programs or Fine Option Programs can only be applied for prisoners who have done minor felony. Thorough examination of every singe profile of the criminal, his behavior during jail sentence, and interaction with other offenders should be conducted in order to choose the correct one. Failure to make a research can lead for such consequences as escape of the criminal from prison or repeated crime. Secondly, adult programs should be chosen according to the type of crime committed by the offender. For instance, thieves, murderers, sex offenders, misdemeanors have different educational programs. What can be useful for robbers can be absolutely unpractical murders and vice versa.

Though various programs for criminals are rather helpful, the effectiveness of each one can change depending on the type of the crime committed by every offended. Therefore, the difficulty of choosing an effective approach lies mainly in personal appeal that should be performed.
