Training Needs Assessment

An initial assessment of what the company required is itemized in the list above. The business operations needed immediate rationalization. This includes elimination of redundancies. The team needed to operate as one and less as individuals so as to maximize on cohesion. What was needed immediately was team building. (Goldstone, 4) Working as a team is important for increased productivity which is needed with the new ISO certification. ISO certification will make the company more attractive. This also has the added advantage of increasing the requirements to adhere to those standards. This automatically increases work load and productivity of the company. It will attract more clients therefore more work done per worker per hour.

Prometheus Spark Technologies was using the windows operating system. In order for greater efficiency, the company switched to apple computers. This is so as to reduce cost of replacing the machines every two years and extend the shelf life to 4 years. The total down time of the machines really cut into productivity this would improve productivity by having superior machines. The added advantage is that the machines don’t get viruses. This means that they cost of anti-virus software will be eliminated from the companies’ liabilities. It will also mean down time will be reduced due to the machines slowing down due to virus infection. It will also protect vital software as well as information from being compromised.

An assessment was done of how many staff needed to learn how to use mac. Those who are familiar with the Apple operating system will teach those who don’t. This will reduce the cost of bringing in outside help. The added advantage is that is that it is in house. Therefore if there is any down time it can be scheduled in as a training session. (Pulakos, p91)

The company operates very sensitive data and the security department had to undergo training. They may be able to stop threats in the department what about outside the department. They deal in very sensitive work. Criminology was integral to the companies’ operations. The cost of university was prohibitive the alternative was an online university. This will allow the company to make the most of the time the security department is manning the cameras. This will also increase the competence of the security staff in general. The chief security officer can be used to train all future security staff. . (Pulakos, p121)

The marketing manager was very good at his job however he is not qualified. . (Pulakos, p58) He needs to attend courses in order to bring the most out of the team he manages. Public relations were determined to be the most suitable. The entire department will become more productive from the courses he will attend and the knowledge he will implement. (Hughes,p88)

The human resource department they were not particularly well trained in dealing with worker issues which reduces morale and productivity. (Hayduk,p.77) This will help with that. The accounting department needed to simply upgrade their auditing skills and regulatory knowledge so as not to slow down the company when auditing needs to be done or when filing tax returns. This would increase their productivity and reduce down time.

The sales department relies on social media as well as good old fashioned leg work. The technology they walk around with impacts not only the clients but also the sales team. Their ability to network is paramount. (Hayduk,p.33) The Ipad is essential for easy communication between them on the field and staff in the office. It will allow them to enter into negotiations on price. With a technological integrated office the Ipad would be their mobile office and they would need to be very savvy with it.

The improvements will increase the companies’ productivity substantially. The greatest problems of communication within a company will be reduced using team building activities. The down time caused by problematic computers will be gone by using better computers. Better training of staff in courses and training sessions will help increase their capabilities in the company. The assessment of this company is now healthy.
