Protections of Teacher Tenure Do Not Hurt Student’s, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 286

Essay

I agree with the topic in that these arguments made by Welch and court regarding tenure laws are not true. Many times Americans seem to point fingers at each other without researching to ascertain who exactly is suppose to be responsible. Those saying that the K-12 budget was reduced and that the public schools are starved are wrong since they imply that students are not subjected to certain programs. They also mean that there is increase in student-teacher ratios and overcrowding. However, a good research shows that there is no violation of the rights of students resulting from budget cuts or overcrowding. The rights of students were hindered by the rights afforded to teachers according to Welch. This is wrong since the tenure is not a hindrance to accomplishments but an asset. Those who use it have achieved greatly.

As much as tenures are good, it does not give teachers a lifetime job. This is because they are subjected to being dismissed; therefore, it is not good for them. Teachers need to be protected in their jobs. Many teachers are living in fear because of this issue. At the time of research was conducted over three quarter of the teachers interviewed showed that tenure system does little to protect them.

In my opinion, I believe tenure laws are good but it should be, made in such a way that it satisfies all parties concerned ranging from student fraternity to teachers. It should be able to gather for the rights of teachers. It should protect their jobs as well. Many tutors in New York have written letters, blogs to show their fear of losing their jobs. Hence, tenure should gather for their rights.
