The book contains specific references to Freud’s Theory of Personality and examines this from a socio psychological perspective. This is an authoritative and useful book for gaining a wider appreciation of psychology covering both concepts and application. Dr. Jeffrey Nevid is Professor of Psychology at St. John’s University in New York. Dr. Nevid also served as Editorial Consultant for the journals Health Psychology and Psychology and Marketing and as Associate Editor for the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. Although the book does not spend any great length of study on Freud’s theories it does provide a good interface to psychology theories further assisting the interpretation of Freud’s doctrines.

Burger is reputed psychologist and a Professor in psychology at Santa Clara University in California. In this book looks at the concept of Personality through the lens of psychology. The book is useful in the sense that it looks at many different theoretical perspectives of Personality, including that of Freud. In this sense it assists in comparative analysis and helps place Freud’s theory of personality with other eminent theories and perspectives. The book is fairly up to date being published in 2010 and as such contains a modern perspective of the varying subject matter under review. Students have criticised the book as being somewhat complex in terms of reading and interpretation, despite the fact that it has been designed from a teaching perspective.

The book provides an excellent analysis of numerous theories of personality and as such provides a very good introdtion to the many different subjects contained with the field of Personality. .The book is structured into the different theoretical aspects of personality and the theoretical approaches contained therein. . The book examines personality from a different number of perspectives, particularly from a race and cultural perspective.

The book is extremely informative from a visual perspective and contains many useful illustrations. The final chapter of the books provides a level of consolidation across the number of theoretical contributions provided.

The book provides extremely balanced coverage of classic and contemporary research. There are numerous relevant examples, and engaging applications, illustrating how psychology helps you understand both yourself and the world you live in. The authors use psychological principles to illuminate the variety of opportunities you have in your life and your future career. The book associates theoretical aspects of personality and facilitates self-analysis and personal development concepts. The book is a very practical reference guide for students and provides a large comprehensive information base that can be referred to in every day use.
