Methodologies for Integrating Quality Improvement Strategies into Performance Measurements

Quality improvement (QI) applies qualitative and quantitative techniques to improve the efficiency, competence, and safety of service delivery procedure and systems, in addition to the performance of human resources in delivering services and products. A quality improvement framework aids at providing the essential environment for analytics assist in driving suitable decision making (Hoffmann, Bennett, & Del, 2010). Quality improvement methodologies spot the most critical quality issues based on issues such as quality needs and patient safety, legislative requirements and national standards, and the general objectives of the HCO. The methodologies used in achieving this include:

  • Using a Prescribed Model for Quality Improvement.

This starts with developing the mission and strategic plan. The senior administration lay down specific strategic goals and offers its support towards the project. Afterwards the metrics used in the measurement of performance are developed. Lastly, ideas are developed that improve performance support in achievement of strategic goals (Hoffmann, Bennett, & Del, 2010).

  • Establishing and Monitoring Metrics with the Aim Evaluating Outcome and Improvement Efforts.

In order to achieve this, all the staff members should be acquitted with the knowledge on metrics for success. When health is under legislative, quality and financial pressure, it is of great importance to offer the management and the quality improvement partners with the crucial information they need to put focus on.

 

  • Ensuring that Families, Patients, Care Team Members and Providers are involved in Quality Improvement Activities.

This helps in breaking the barriers between all the groups. This improves performance because challenge of meeting needs of the patients is reduced and the information burden is minimized (Hoffmann, Bennett, & Del, 2010).

  • Optimizing the Use of Health Information Technology In Order To Meet Meaningful Criteria.

The use of health information technology assures better information means, secure access to information, reduction of unnecessary tests and faster and more accurate prescriptions.

In order to attain improvements, an organization is required to understand its individual delivery mechanism and the major processes. The methodologies applied for Integrating Quality Improvement Strategies into Performance Measurements should recognize both resources and activities carried out in order to improve quality of care.
