Recruitment as an Important Process in Human Resource Management, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 412

Essay

Contemporary organizations place significant importance to Human Resource Management due the value associated with members of staff. Employees are considered to be the most important assets in the organization because they control all the operations and are essentially responsible for the implementation of the company’s strategic objectives (Bratton and Gold, 2003). Positive alignment between the company’s strategy and employee performance is therefore quite inevitable where the creation of competitive advantage is desired.

In order to ensure that the company’s strategic objectives are met, there is need to ensure that the company is well equipped with the right knowledge and skills (Cook, 2005; Bratton and Gold, 2003). Recruitment is therefore the most important aspects of HRM. Accordingly, my team and I have always strived to ensure that only the best candidates are recruited for all positions within the company. Each candidate must meet the minimum standards for the job; both in terms of skills and knowledge. As noted by Cook (2005), this greatly reduces chances of error and in turn enhances chances of success.  Highly skilled employees are likely to be more efficient and more productive thus enhancing the organization’s profitability. Such efficiency gives the organization competitive advantage and improves chances of survival (Bratton and Gold, 2003).

Recruiting employees with high knowledge and skills reduces the need for training (Ehrenberg and Smith, 1997). For example, a person who has worked in the customer care department for five years is likely to perform exceptionally well with little need for training, as compared to someone who has only worked for one month. This in turn saves the organization’s resources. For this reason, my department is very specific about the experience acquired by the candidate previously.

I believe that each member in the management would agree with me that efficiency and proper utilization of resources is highly vital in the survival of the organization. As I have noted earlier, employees with high skills provide such efficiency and are therefore likely ensure that the organization’s strategic objectives are met. The attainment of these strategic objectives however is best achieved when the initial process of employee recruitment is done efficiently. The process of employee recruitment therefore forms an important process in human Resource Management and cannot be overlooked.
