As I have been travelling down the road to the capstone, and ultimately my final degree, several things about my own personality and learning styles have been uncovered through research and self-reflection. First of all, due to my age, I am considered a “Gen-Xer”. This makes up a large part of the student population who choose to attend online classes today, especially in light of the availability they offer for raising a family while working and advancing one’s degree all at the same time. Generation X has a decent grasp on technology because we were born during the cusp of its prime. Basically, we grew up along with technology, if you will. I find that has helped me, personally, be able to understand things better than a person twenty years older who might not have been exposed to this technology until he was already part of the workforce.

I found, through the Vark Questionnaire, that I was a kinesthetic learner with a score of 5 and had a Read/Write score of 5 as well. This information is valuable to a field such as nursing because nursing is almost completely hands-on. I learn best that way and, due to this ability, will be better equipped to provide care to my patients as well as accurately chart their medical and other pertinent information. Most Generation X-ers are efficient multitaskers also, which is crucial in the nursing profession with multiple patients, medication administration responsibilities, extra supervisory duties, and other daily tasks that must be taken care of as time permits. All in all this has been an eye opening activity for me and one I feel truly fits my personality and behavior patterns.
