Replacing a Practice Management System, Case Study Example

Pages: 1

Words: 318

Case Study

Based upon the information provided in the case study, system selection is a challenging process. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the challenges of choosing a system that accommodates the objectives sought with the merger and the efforts that are made to improve practice management as a whole. Above all else, the system must promote efficiency and provide a basis for consolidating resources effectively. Practice management is a challenging process that requires significant attention to detail without the need for unnecessary information; therefore, the system that is selected must not only be efficient, but its reporting capabilities must be strong and focused only on necessary data and information.

Other challenges in this process include the selection of a system that will combine patient data and recognize the importance of managing information on a larger scale, particularly when new patients are received into the system. The system must accomplish the primary objectives of the merged organization and reflect upon the issues that are most significant in shaping system capabilities as upgrades are necessary in the future. The new system must be able to capture large amounts of data in an organized fashion, while also demonstrating a critical focus on cost effectiveness. The IT department must also possess the knowledge and skill that is required to ensure that the system is successful in its applications.

Finally, the system must be able to accomplish a comprehensive approach to patient management and provide customer technical support as necessary, in addition to backup capabilities. The transmission of data within the system must also be secure at all levels so that sensitive data is not compromised or impacted by a failure of the system to achieve its stated purpose and functionality. These factors are instrumental in supporting system expansion as necessary to meet the needs of the merged organization and its patient population in an effective manner.
