Report About Walden University’s Initiatives, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 311

Essay

After creating the discussion report about Walden University’s initiatives to support social change, and reviewing the literature, the completed paper was screened through two systems: Grammarly and Turnitin, to check for plagiarism and grammatical/sentence structure errors. The findings of the reports will be summarized below.

Turnitin found a 2 percent similarity with other student papers, but no match for internet sources, or publications were found. The results of the check were assuring, as the system recognized the quotations and the in-text references that were placed in the paper. It is likely that the topic of social change, and the different terms used by the submitted paper were similar to other students’ assignments, as social change is a popular research topic. No word-for-word matches were found, though, therefore, the report provided a positive feedback.

The Grammarly report provided some interesting information about common trends in my writing regarding sentence structure. In some places, the word order issues could have been avoided by making the sentences shorter, therefore, making the paper more readable, and easier to follow. Wordiness was another common mistake, which could easily have been fixed by reading through the paper again before submitting it. Some overused words were also found, such as clearly, and in the future, I will use a synonym checker system to find alternative words. Further, the report highlighted the fact that the word “University”, when referring to one particular institution, should be capitalized. In the reports of Walden University, however, this was not the case, therefore, I followed the example of the publications. As an example, the Review of Social Change at Walden University (Yob, 2012, p. 5) report states: “in 2005, the university celebrated its 35th anniversary”. I will seek guidance on the issue in the future, to avoid confusion.

Overall, using the two systems was easy, and the reports provided essential information about the quality of assignment.
