Introduction

In this example, it is necessary to evaluate the patient’s current physical state and to identify objective data that has not yet been addressed. The primary issues to consider are as follows: 1) the patient’s current color (pale, etc.); 2) her temperature upon touch (warm or cold); 3) whether or not her breathing appears to be labored; and 4) whether or not her cough is deep and if there is any phlegm release. This objective data will support the development of a diagnosis and treatment plan for the patient to alleviate existing symptoms and to begin the recovery process.

Analysis

Objective data supports a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan for the patient, based upon valuable assessments of cough (Faruqi et.al, 2011). Through objective data, the type and nature of cough may be identified and correlated to subjective findings in order to develop a more definitive diagnosis (Faruqi et.al, 2011). Objective data such as counting cough and its level of severity upon objective examination are critical factors in determining the nature of the cause and its possible cause (Faruqi et.al, 2011). Furthermore, the potential exists to utilize gender differences in determining the nature and severity of the cough in question (Kelsall et.al, 2009). This type of objective data may ultimately contribute to a definitive diagnosis to coordinate effective treatment (Kelsall et.al, 2009).

Conclusion

The use of objective data during examination is essential to the development of the proper diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan. For a patient with productive cough, intermittent fever, and dyspnea, it is important to address objective considerations in order to provide the patient with accurate answers and a diagnosis that coincides with current symptoms. These contributions will play a critical role in the promotion of recovery and healing for this patient.
