Pages: 1

Words: 265

Essay

Developed in 2002, Roku has become a pre-eminent digital video player. In the world of technology, it is recognized as a versatile and efficient player, due to its inexpensive upfront costs. Along with its free and premium channels, the Roku has recently added game support as well. With a wide variety of offerings and advantages, the Roku has replaced cable and satellite packages for some households.

The Roku is foremost a product that enables streaming media. With free and paid channels such as Pandora and Netflix, users can now stream their favorite shows, music, and movies with ease. Growing content and channel options has allowed some, along with other tools and options in streaming media, to rethink their cable packages.

With the Roku’s ability to stream media, a resulting effect can be seen with society. Not only has it had a marked direct impact, but the Roku has led to other technological developments. Today, video game systems can stream digital content, such as from Netflix. Other devices, such as the market that concentrates on streaming movie rentals, has also become quite popular. Following the lead of Roku, this market has significantly risen over the past decade.

Finally, the Roku has led to the demand for similar items. Not to be confused with previous ideas in this analysis, there is a dynamic that has been seen in terms of consumer demand. As a result, many cable stations provide full-length shows for online viewing. Popular professional sports leagues provide streaming options as well. Once again following in the footsteps of Roku, providers are recognizing the next wave in digital content.
