Role of Women in the Life of Jesus, Creative Essay Example

Creative Essay

One prominent insight to the importance of women in the life of Jesus is made in reference to the infancy narrative.  The role of Mary is quite obvious and extremely important, as she is chosen to give birth to Jesus.  This role is at the forefront in the importance of women in the life of Jesus, as seen throughout Christian theology in this development.

Elizabeth is also an important woman in the life of Jesus.  Known as the Visitation, Elizabeth met Mary when she was pregnant with Jesus, where Elizabeth’s righteousness was mentioned in Luke.  In Luke 1:41-42, we also see the infant leaping in the womb and Elizabeth proclaiming her blessedness as a woman in the sight of Him.

Mary and Martha also play important roles in the life of Jesus.  In the raising of Lazarus, both Martha and Mary are seen as important characters in the story.  Martha notably confirms her belief that He is Christ, the Son of God, and both are present in the raising of Lazarus, in which the Bible teaches lessons of faith in Christ.

In the discovery of the empty tomb, the importance of women in the life of Jesus is further confirmed.  Women are used as eyewitnesses to these events, including the death and entombment, along with the discovery of the empty tomb.  Clearly the importance of women in Luke and the Gospels are furthered in these illustrations.

Luke and the Gospels portray women as an integral part of the life of Jesus.  Beyond these brief characterizations of this fact, there are other considerations that further this nature in the Bible and in Luke particularly.  Other than Mary, it is interesting to see how the other women in the Gospel play such important parts to the ministry and life of Jesus.
