The project involving the development of rural clinics in the United States is challenging on many levels, but it offers a unique and satisfying learning experience that will provide much support and assistance to the communities in need. This assignment has been very important in addressing some of the issues involving rural clinics, including the requirements of a clinic, the resources that are required, and how to best approach a strategy for implementation that will improve the quality of life of rural residents. In addition, these factors require a high level understanding of the different criteria that impact patients and how to best overcome the obstacles that have been identified in rural communities. Based upon the challenges that have been observed, it is inevitable that changes to the current approaches to rural healthcare must be addressed more closely and must provide a basis for examining new ideas and approaches to care and treatment.
This assignment has also supported the development of a skillset that promotes creativity and cohesiveness in ideas, thoughts and perceptions regarding a given issue. These factors require an effective understanding of the different elements of care and treatment that impact patients in rural communities, particularly when resources are severely limited and do not provide the level of support that is required to meet needs and expectations. Programmatic efforts must be creative and insightful in regards to the needs of patients, while also considering other factors that have an impact on outcomes. In examining these ideas, they must be geared towards the needs of rural residents, who may have specific needs that are not common in other areas. Under these conditions, it is inevitable that there must be new opportunities to achieve growth and to recognize the value of patient care quality as part of any discussion regarding rural care and treatment.
This assignment has also supported my interest in the differences between healthcare quality and delivery in different types of communities, based upon different approaches to care and treatment that have a significant impact on patient outcomes. At the same time, the recruitment of healthcare professionals to rural areas is a difficult and often daunting task, one that requires a constant level of attention to the number of physicians and nurses that are available, well before any discussions are conducted regarding the services that are necessary within these areas. It is important to identify the tools and resources that will have a positive and lasting impact on patients over time. These efforts require an understanding of the different tools and resources that are required to develop clinics in rural communities and to be cognizant of the different aspects of care and treatment that patients require.
Based upon the lessons that have been learned, one recommendation is to consider methods to expand education so that patients in rural areas receive the type of attention that is necessary to meet their needs and to be proactive in training nurses and physicians to provide education to rural residents. These opportunities are likely to improve patient enthusiasm and engagement in the different areas in which patients require care and treatment. In particular, chronic disease management must be a primary focus within the rural community in order to reduce these risks, to alleviate symptoms, and to be cognizant of behavioral needs. Therefore, in rural communities, it is important to identify areas where local patients might benefit at a high level, including preventative care and behavioral modifications to achieve effective outcomes. These communities require an effective understanding of the different elements that contribute to effective patient care and treatment for rural residents through the expansion of clinics and related resources.
