Every country has their own expectations and standards for their schools. This includes ages, class structure, and levels of education. The basic requirements, how they operate and the homework they issue their students. The summer breaks and free time they give to the students is during the summer months of the year. Whether it is a public school, private school, or home schooling, the Russian schools have similar structures to that used in the United States.

Public schools in Russia are geared to teach children from the ages of six to seventeen. The time of school runs similar to ours in the United States, starting at 8:30 and ending at 2:30. It works with the basic education being consistent across the board through the ninth grade. There is a national exam issued after the ninth grade, and the student can win or gold or silver metal is they do well. After that the students go to a secondary school, focusing on math, science, language, and history. There is also the option of a vocational school where the student focuses on a select career. Home work is issued in greater volume than here in the United States. The public schools free time runs from May 25 to September 1 traditionally, but can vary from school to school.

Russian private schools began in 1992 by being able to charge tuition. The time for these schools varies, but some start at 8am and end between 1 and 2 pm. They go to school Monday through Friday and some study on Saturday. How it works is that the normal class sizes are between 20-30 students. The students stay together throughout primary school and have the same teacher for all their subjects as well. Private school has a heavier homework load due to the higher expectations with the learning. The free time for private schools is typically 170 days from the end of May on.

Homeschooling in Moscow is very common; however it is rare in most other parts of Russia. This is because there is little governmental support for homeschooling materials. The hours vary depending on the parents schedules. They have much more flexibility than public and private schools because it is just their family who is attending these classes. So if it works out best for everyone to go 3pm to 8pm they have that option. The curriculum is gotten from Russian school system or other approved schooling courses. This material is not geared for homeschooling, making it difficult for some parents to use. Homework is part of the schooling, because it all takes place at home. They do have work they have to do on their own just like in public and private schooling. Their free time is dependent on the chosen schooling schedule, and can be the same as the other schooling systems. The only difference in home schooling than in public and private schools is they have to register the progress with the government to confirm the child is in school.

Whether it is a public school, private school, or home schooling, the Russian schools have similar structures to that used in the United States. Private schools have higher demands because they are teaching the kids at a higher level than the public schools. Home schooling can be either higher or lower demands on the student depending on the parents education and expectations. Either way the schooling structures are common to what we are familiar with. There were no big differences in the Russian schooling systems and the American schooling system. The time, how it works, the homework, and the free time are dependent on the type of school structure it is.
