Sangita’s Career, Case Study Example

The case of Sangita’s career surrounds the options she is studying of how to innovate ones professional work career. From her studies at the Human Resource Management module she took, Sangita sought to study the two possibilities of career advancement in the case study. The first possibility was traditionally for one to move up in their career field by maintaining stability in an organization and working their way up the hierarchy through advancements and promotions. The other possibility that Sangita wanted to explore was that of one advancing their career by switching up organizations for further networking and work experience.

The possible research strategies that Sangita might use to address her research question must be able to provide some form of evidence that can lead to a conclusive answer to Santiga’s research question. Santiga would like to know which of the two options is more effective in innovating one’s professional career. A strong statistical and research methodology would be to gather evidence through the use of surveys. This is often done in research and can provide supporting evidence to whatever the results may be. (Yin 2013)

Another strong statistical and research methodology that Sangita may use as a research strategy is to conduct a long term study over a sample set of test subjects whom are all selected and willing to participate in the study. In this research strategy, Santiga would need to commit to a long term of time for the study in order to obtain the most accurate results. Realistically, this study would take between five to ten years to conduct as it would require gathering the results from the test groups as they make advancements in their professional careers. (Creswell 2013)

There are both advantages and disadvantages to both of these research strategies. In regard to the first research strategy, conducting a research survey amongst a sample set of selected test subjects whom are already seasoned professionals in their business career field would be simple to do. Not only is this research method simple, but it also may provide reasonably accurate results that can contribute to answering the research question. (Kumar 2005)

The fall back to obtaining research data through a survey analysis is that the information obtained would be based on a previous economic time in which the test subjects worked in. If the current economy is significantly different from the previous economic times where the results from the survey took place, then it might provide misleading results to the survey question. For example, if the work professionals had to make career advancements through the financial crash of 2008, then this would need to be disclosed as it is a significantly unusual variable. (Groves 2011)

On the other hand, selecting groups of test subjects to analyze through their current professional business careers would provide more current results at the conclusion of the research study. This research strategy however, might not be as simple to conduct as the first. The test subjects would have to be continuously analyzed on a regular basis throughout the research study as opposed to taking a one-time survey. Another down fall of this strategy is the time it would take to conduct. It would take close to a decade in order to obtain the most realistic results. (Yin 2013)

Of the two research strategies, I would most likely go with the survey strategy. Despite the down fall of this research strategy being based on a previous economic time, as long as the previous time frame is close enough to the current time, then it would not be so drastic. For example, conducting a 2015 study based on the professional work results of career advancement from 2004-2014 would be reasonable as long as the financial crash of 2008 is disclosed.
