Introduction
Sentimental women need not apply is a production depicting the history of America nurse/nursing. This video succinctly outlines the perils American women, among their counterparts in the international area, encountered as they entered the profession.
Development/Reflection
Precisely, the video offered a documentary of nurses being America’s greatest segment of professional female workers. The video offered a comprehensive account in that it touched on nursing history whereby women were marginalized and worked for less pay than men when completing the same tasks. These producers allowed the audience to view this production from several points of view. Some accounts were communicated as myths when in fact they were true situations encountered by women at the time(Hott,&Garey, 2005).
For example, the scene where nurses and nursing was perceived insignificant professionally because of its women dominance, the producers articulated these issues in a comical fashion yet still its reality to the audience was projected. The events portrayed occurrences from mid-19 century showing how nurses dressed as professional women during that era (Hott,&Garey, 2005).
Themain focus of this video appeared to be recalling historical developments comparing contemporary nursing internationally. This phenomenon was exquisitely represented. The producers was achieveda[[lied interviews incorporating dramatic readings, drawings as well as stillphotographs in vividly reflecting on the historical experiences of the American nurse (Hott,&Garey, 2005)..
While the history of nursing has a military foundation with Florence Nightingale’s service to injured solders, these producers strategically incorporated this historical fact in the American nurse’s history even though its emergence went beyond this phase in its conception (Egenes, 2012). Today modern technology has become a significant feature in nursing practice. Philosophy hqsw now converged into theory and evidence based practice derived from scientific research explorations (Egenes, 2012).
More importantly, this video highghts removal of the deep measure of compassion which Florence Nightingale and early nursing pioneers entered the profession and approached patient care interventions. It would appear that current approaches have become technologically based that the modern nursehas become a tenders of complicated computer programs instead of a vital hands – on practitioners (Egenes, 2012 ).
Dating back to days when there were epidemic outbreaks the video shows how nurses are now more equipped when responding to these diseases such as syphilis, small pox, yellow fever, HIV/AIDS and now ebola. Syphilis killed many peoplein the world among soldiers. In nursing soldiers affected by syphilis Florence Nightingale did not have knowledge of all the preventive measures nurses ought to have taken when nursing these patients. In the twenty-first century apart from wearing protective clothing, aesthetic techniques are practiced and patients are quarantined for a period of time if exposed to the organism causing the disease (Selanders&Craine, 2012).
Besides, racial and gender discrimination were exposed in this productions. These have been real issues during the military emergence of the profession. While strong measures have been taken to remove many stereotypes and more men are being trained nurses profession some still exist today. Florence nightingale led the wayfor women to begin working in professions suchas nursing. In America women were similarly viewed as inferior especially black women due to segregation of Jim Crow laws
Conclusion
In this historical presentation it could beconcluded that the statementsentimental women need not applyis symbolic of the significant contributions made by women to nursing science especially, in America and across the world. While the focus was on American nursing history subtly the episodes integrated how historical events of other countries influenced the nature of America’s nursing history.
