Several Development Methods, Essay Example

Essay

From my own experience, ‘interpersonal relationships’ has proved to be the most beneficial development method to me. Considering interpersonal relationship programs at work (such as mentoring programs), I have been able to gain knowledge, skills and expertise from my seniors and successful employees thus leading to improvement in my work performance. Through interpersonal relationships, I have been able to socialize with my fellow employees and in the process, learn how to understand other people, learn new ideas and skills of coping up with others in a social and professional setting (Diane, 2005). Interpersonal relationships have been my source of motivation to attain my goals through coaching, development skills, support and feedback from mentors, coaches and fellow employees. Another development method that has been of great importance to me is assessment. Through assessment, I have been able to recognize and identify my strengths, values, weakness and interests both professionally and socially. The feedbacks for assessment have helped me to improve on my weakness and maximally utilize available opportunities (Raymond, 2008). I have also been able to develop measures on how to deal with challenges and barriers while engaged in professional or social practices.

Incase I had no opportunity for employee development; the methods that will be most beneficial include formal education and interpersonal relationships as well. Formal education will be importance in a way that the short courses and programs provide education and other related skills in various areas of practice and the general development in the society (Diane, 2005). Formal education is beneficial since it can allow an individual to fit in various societal contexts without necessarily having to be employed. Interpersonal relationships will be beneficial as well because it will instill discipline and enhance positive interaction skills. In this aspect, one will be able to understand others and relate to them in an ethical and acceptable manner. In other words, interpersonal relationship teaches one to fit well in a society, working place or any other social/professional setting (Raymond, 2008).
