Essay

The video provides a lot of insight on childhood development issues associated with traits specifically attributed to men and women. I find notion or opinion stated by the lady agreeable. The character traits commonly attributed to men and women can be compared conferring to prior studies conducted on the field of sex or gender based roles. The study showed that setting gender-role standards at home or school affected child growth through encouraging them to conform to cultural norms in the society. We ought to look at each other as human beings first before associating gender typing or sex roles in the society.

The typical adjectives (strong and tough vs. fragile and delicate) form a viable basis for an argument regarding gender roles.  Strength, toughness, and being resilience has been associated to the male gender mostly at the adolescence stages due to rapid mental and physical development rate.   The society is definitely moving away from the stereotypical idea of gender based roles as it has been since before the onset of the 20th century.

The movement towards androgyny is a slow and gradual process owing to the level of education and family life. These are the two determinants associated with social class and ethic variations that come up in different children depending on where they grew up and went to school. For example, children who grew up in middle to upper class families tend to adopt flexible attitudes about roles set to be played by men and women (Shaffer, 2009).

The social environment and human biology influence gender roles. The environment in a child grows and develops highly determines their gender roles, for example, the school or parenting habits can influence the thought or ideas their child have towards gender roles (Shaffer, 2009). Biology explains the reasons as to why at a certain age, children or teenagers tend to behave in a certain way, for example, female at adolescence are more likely to conform to the social identity of the feminine traits may    .

I do not agree that it would be beneficial to raise a child with specific gender roles since these roles can define their future and ambitions. For example, in past certain kind of activities like sports were associated to the male gender. But one can currently see the benefits of diversity in roles that help equip kids with basic life skills that can help them even in their careers.
