Sherman Senior Center, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 293

Essay

Sherman Renaissance Senior Center’s philosophy is that it is a responsibility of the society to look after its senior members and ensure that our senior citizens continue to have meaningful life experiences. True to its mission, the center organizes various events for its members such as discussion sessions, shopping trips, free or discounted transportation, exercise classes, informational lectures, and picnics etc. The center also works with other organizations to improve the quality of life of its members as well as keeps its members updated on regulatory changes and federal programs/grants aimed at the senior citizens.

Sherman Renaissance Senior Center’s values include treating all members with respect and dignity and ensuring that everyone has equal access to the services irrespective of their economic means. The center does receive budget funding from the city but the management attempts to cover the shortfall through voluntary donations rather than mandatory fees. The center’s values also include an honest commitment from the employees to the well being of its members as well as excellence in their primary job responsibilities. The center believes in close working relationship among its employees to ensure that all of its planned activities are a success. Because the center operates on a limited budget, the employees are expected to manage the center’s limited sources efficiently as well as reach out to other organizations and the community to support the mission of the center.

The decision making process within the center is democratic because the organization believes in giving voice to all the stakeholders including the members who are encouraged to provide suggestions and feedback. The organization also believes in open communication and one example of this is the quarterly newsletter which updates the members on the progress of the center as well as its near-term goals.
