Pages: 1

Words: 294

Essay

A smart grid is a form of electronic infrastructure that allows for a variety of power and energy applications to be applied. By incorporating information and communication technology into the generation of power, it can be produced more cheaply and in a manner that allows for the production of clean energy. Furthermore, it is projected that the use of smart grids will enable this form of energy production to be more reliable, which will result in more positive customer service. Overall, smart grids can be considered a modernized version of energy production. Since there is a need to produce more energy and a desire to have this energy creation to have a lesser impact on the environment, the creation of these smart grids are reasonable technological developments.

The grid is essentially the technology that is responsible for carrying electricity between the plants and customers. However, the smart grid is computerized, which allows this energy transfer to happen according to an already programmed schedule, thereby allowing energy plan workers to focus on establishing new infrastructure and ensuring that the computerized system is working effectively. This new and improved system allows many different benefits for the customer. Ideally, it allows the transfer of energy to be more cost effective because there are less overhead costs involved in the process. Furthermore, it allows energy to be transferred to the homes of customers more readily due to the use of the computerized system. Thus, the smart grid makes it easier for power companies to coordinate the transfer of power to hundreds of thousands of clients that rely on their services. It could therefore be said that the smart grid is revolutionizing future technology.
