Smart Robots, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 302

Essay

According to the article, some scientists believe that it is reasonable to create robots with human intelligence. While this has been a fantasy for a long period of time, humans have come closer and closer to achieving this ability. Science has allowed this because we have been able to gain a greater understanding of the human brain, which has in turn helped us understand how we can mimic the brain using a non-living piece of technology. Furthermore, artificial intelligence is an already extremely common technology that several decades ago, people wouldn’t have believed to be possible. However, it is a common part of the technology that is used today. Therefore, science has created the necessary basis for the implementation of smart robots.

The article proposes that robots all boil down to aesthetics and creative programming. However, this is not true. Robots are made smart primarily because of the programming that they are given. While the appearance that they are assigned may provide them with a certain utility, their abilities are purely due to the artificial intelligence they are provided with. Therefore, while a robot can be made to look like a human, this is not at all necessary for functionality. Furthermore, while modern people believe that robots are more than machines, this does not appear to be the case in reality. Rather, what were once simple machines now have artificial intelligence. However, this marks the evolution of technology instead of the changing nature of machines. Robots and machines are both non-living and are therefore basically the same thing independently of the fact that robots can be more capable than other machines. We need both forms of technology in the modern world, and their distinct capabilities are not always applicable. Therefore, since humans can build both robots and machines, they can be considered equal.
