Essay

The factor of being overweight is considered to be a significant problem, which has been on the rise in the last thirty years. Based on current statistics, the number of overweight individuals has tripled in the last thirty years. This factor has proven to be a cause of concern amongst a large number of parents as well as other individuals in the United States. This aspect is evident after the documentary termed ‘Super King Size Me’, which was a documentary that illustrated the levels of fat filled foods served by McDonalds and how the food can fatten individuals. (Kelly 20)

After the documentary, the restaurant was forced to revise their menus as well as begin offering food that had a major reduction in calories. This factor has been taken under advisement by the other fast food restaurants. Based on the impact of the documentary, the fast food restaurants have taken the initiative in improving the general health of their customers by providing low calorie meals (Kelly 87). However, there is only so much that the restaurants can do, because they cannot influence their customer preferences.

The bottom line is that the customer will decide what they will eat, whether there are healthy meals or not, it will be up to the customer to decide what they want. In this case the level of obesity is based on the general preferences of the customers (Kelly 155). Thus the aspect of physical appearance is based on the preferences of the customers of the fast food restaurants. Based on the recent statistics, physical appearance is second nature to the general nature of food preferences.

However, other measures have been established to counter the effects of fast foods, such as the installment of gyms in the workplaces. This facility will be used by individuals who conscious of their appearance, but this factor does not apply to all individuals.  In conclusion, physical appearances only apply to the individuals who are conscious of their personal appearance.
