Research Paper

South America Health Insurance Managed Care Plan (SAHIMCP) is the name of this insurance company. SAHIMCP is a member of London Stock Exchange– the stock name is MCP.  The company has over $20 Million Bilover dollars in revenues in 2009, with stock portfolio of $1 Billion Bilover dollars. SAHIMCP offers a reasonable price for the insurance coverage that can meet economic of scale income level. We have over 1 million subscribers including the participating licensed doctors and nurses. The plan has seven types of plans of choice that are designed to meet clients’ needs.

The health insurance for the low-income families plan is designed to provide health insurance benefit services for individuals, one-single family, and multiple families that does not meet higher median income bracket. The benefits of health insurance services that are paid by this insurance company are the free annual physical check-ups; free immunization shots for children from age 0 to 14; free prevention care; and information provided in the newsletters and online services —to obtain in depth information about medical self care, diseases, and conditions that are covered and not covered by this insurance company. What this company do not offer are the specialization service coverage i.e.( ear, throat, and nose); long-term care insurance coverage, i.e. (retirement home facility); and in-patient services, i.e. (acute stay at psychiatry facility) (White, et. al , 2007).

It is recognized by the people of Venezuela that needs acute services, outpatient services, and referral services provided by South America Health Insurance Managed Care Plan. The participating doctors and nurses have aggressively provided their services to the low-income people; educate them through prevention care; and precautionary care on their daily lives.

SAHIMCP has implemented a health care insurance network system. They are in partnership with Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay on strengthening the core services for the poor such as doctors’ fee for service, doctors’ performance for pay system, and patients’ responsibilities since the year of 2000. This in order to have the most comprehensive plan that works on all parties involved (Griffith, et. al 2007).

Venezuela has the Mercosur membership benefits in the trading of imported/exported goods has raised their gross domestic products above all of the industries, chiefly in petroleum and agriculture sectors in the world. Stephanie Hanson (2009), author of Council of Foreign Affairs, summarized from an economic standpoint that, Venezuela could make a significant contribution to Mercosur. The oil-rich nation’s incorporation contributed $331.8 billion to Mercosur’s overall gross domestic product (GDP) in 2008. According to CIA Fact Book (2010),  Venezuela remains highly dependent on oil revenues, which account for roughly 90% of export earnings, about 50% of the federal budget revenues, and around 30% of GDP.

On the flip side, the drawbacks for Venezuela are the technological infrastructure— Because Mercosur includes only developing countries, its members are less likely to be exposed to the advanced technology embodied in imports from developed countries. Indeed, the external tariff that Mercosur applies to the rest of the world heightens the union’s isolation from developed countries (Connelly, et. al 1999).  In addition,  the country, Venezuela, were perceived   philosophically against free trading bloc with United States.  Brazil and Argentina’s concerns about trade with the United States are rooted more in economic, than philosophical, reasons. Moreover, Brazil and Argentina are attracted by access to Venezuela’s energy supplies. In despite of developed countries membership with Mercosur, there are conflicts on free trade laws, higher tariff fees, and social economy issues (Hanson, et. al 2009).

An impaction to South America Health Insurance Managed Care Plan (SAHIMCP) is a very competitive advantage because, for one, our partnership with other four Mercosur members is strong and effective. Our trading bloc is an intangible product , in which, there are less exposure to the tariff fees; and an answer to the social health economy, which this country is in dire need of health insurance for the indigents ; and the international trading laws does not require a stringent process of applying for trading transactions agreements per trade. Moreover, our health insurance network system are streamlined into multiple organizations that conduct research for us to further discuss health-related issues, that emphasize an education for the doctors, nurse, health care professionals, and patients on medical care issues and  the disproportion of the payment for service issues and other insurance-related issues. With our 1 million subscribers, 80% of clients are satisfied with our services, where else are in need for an additional services.

The drawbacks for our business are the conflicted neighbor country that have some disagreements on trading bloc, for instance,  Bolivia, the one with over 2.3 Trillion dollars of GDP,  is one step away from receiving a full membership with Mercosur. Thus, our services cannot be provided until Brazil is a full member of Mercosur. Second reason, health insurance is a political issue because of the monetary funds that are contributed to the health insurance plans. In which, it can imply to SAHIMCP because of the socioeconomic level that are below the median level of economic scale. SAHIMCP will join the International Social Security Administration (ISSA) , which benefits recipients’ to have the federal income benefits and health insurance benefits altogether (ISSA, 2008). Thirdly, SAHIMCP are restricted to market the plans in Mercosur member countries. Thus, this company cannot market our services outside of Mercosur until the restriction is lifted.
