Essay

Areas of Improvement

In my clinical experiences to date, I have discovered some of my strengths. However, my skill set remains unpolished and I require additional training and guidance in a number of areas where I am deficient. Support and instruction will enable me to take additional steps towards improving my skills in a number of critical areas, such as expanding my use of the x-ray equipment, learning new positioning techniques, and selecting the appropriate technique in order to become an expert in this area. These weaknesses must be improved in order to maximize my skills and overall potential in the healthcare profession.

Plan of Action

In an effort to improve on my current deficiencies, it is necessary to develop a plan of action that will enable me to obtain the necessary training and guidance to establish a framework for professional growth and skill development. I will address these deficiencies with my instructor in order to obtain greater training and knowledge that will translate to improved skills. This will be accomplished in the spring semester by spending extra time on each of these areas on a weekly basis, perhaps rotating the skill sets on different days so that I am able to make the most of the time that I am given. If I am given the opportunity to obtain hands-on exposure in these deficient areas, I am likely to improve upon these skills and demonstrate my knowledge to the instructor to gain a greater sense of comfort with this skill set. A rotating method of expanded instruction is likely to be most helpful in reducing gaps in knowledge and the ability to perform specific duties as required in a real-life setting. These simulations and firsthand knowledge from the instructor will prepare me to achieve these objectives and to be successful in a permanent role in the future.
