Studying for a semester in Europe provides a wonderful opportunity to not only expand my knowledge in my major, Biology but also to provide a cultural experience. International students have often taken advantage of the British education institutions. Every year they welcome between 250,000 – 300,000 international students to experience an education in a UK study program. Outside of the United States, the UK is the most popular choice for international students around the world. Besides the obvious opportunity to obtain a valuable education, it also opens the door for a cultural experience and diversity in my personal education.

An opportunity to study abroad will provide an improvement in my future employment prospects. The qualifications of the British educational system is not only recognized throughout the world, but it is valued by employers. The academic system offers vocational courses in addition to traditional ones, of which many are awarded and designed by world class companies and industry bodies. Living on my own in a new country while experiencing a new culture will allow me to develop my personal skills like adaptability, independence, and flexibility. These traits and skills are highly valued by employers.

Europe also is a global leader in international education. The UK has seven of the ten top universities in Europe. In fact, Cambridge, London Imperial College, and Oxford are ranked within the top ten in the entire world. That says a lot about the educational opportunity that attending a semester abroad will provide. The credibility of attending one of the world’s top ten universities. The UK has only about one percent of the total world’s population, yet it commences five percent of the world’s scientific research. It also produces around fourteen percent of the world’s highest cited academic papers. Studying in the UK provides an opportunity to experience the one of the best educational systems in the world.

There is also a financial benefit for studying in Europe. There is still the living and transportation cost that may be higher than what I am accustom to in my current educational experience; however, there is an opportunity to save money in the educational aspect. The UK’s undergraduate degrees traditionally takes only three years in contrast to four years. Their educational structure provides more academic knowledge in a shorter period. It provides an opportunity to offset the living expenses with the faster educational process. I would also have access to free health care on the National Health Service.

Broadening my personal horizons is an important part of the educational process. Europe offers a multicultural, multi-faith environment that is welcoming to visitors from abroad. Living in the UK will allow me to experience new cultures and to meet people who come from vast backgrounds. Exposure to individual show holds different views is important in education. It will provide an opportunity to embrace differences and prepare for the diversities that I will face in the real world workforce. The UK is popular for international students, so it will allow me to meet and work with individuals from all around the world during my UK educational experience.

The University of Oxford is the oldest universities in the world. It has been operational and successful for over nine centuries. The University is an internationally renowned establishment for research and teaching, allowing them to attract a significant number of scholars and students from all around the world. International students are one-fourth of the total enrollment in the University. It offers exposure to more than 130 nationalities in the student population totally over 18,000 students yearly. The University of Oxford appeals to the brightest and best students from all over the globe.

The University of Oxford is accessible to all students who possess great abilities and talents, regardless of their background. All students who possess the quality skills can apply to the University. The generous Oxford Opportunity Bursary removes any financial barriers for students who want to experience a top notch education. The university also provides quality teaching through tutorial systems. There are a few universities that provide teaching through a tutorial system, and Oxford is one of them. All departments in the university use this tool to provide each student a quality education. It allows for students who a more personalized education, especially if the international factors are creating a barrier to learning. I feel that this will provide an education, unlike any others.

The University of Oxford also offers an expert international faculty. The majority of the tutors available at the University of Oxford are well-known experts in their field of profession. Their individual engagements offer the students an advanced exposure and understanding in their subject of discipline. The knowledge that the tutors have will provide a firsthand exposure to learning the subject in a way that traditional universities cannot offer. Personally, a tutor who is an expert in Biology will provide learning on a whole new level. The educational process thus far has been great, however being exposed to a new learning process and experience will only expand my individual learning opportunity.

The college life also offers one of the best experiences. Broadening the college experience will allow for an opportunity to make new friends and to build professional relationships with the professors and tutors. Oxford University offers an unparalleled opportunity based on their resources and support in the study. The university has some of the world’s best laboratories and libraries. Students have access to the unmatched sports facilities, computer equipment, music facilities and language-learning opportunities. An opportunity to learn abroad will also provide an excellent reference for future job searches. Having studied at the University of Oxford for a semester make me far more marketable for potential job opportunities.

Not only does studying abroad open the door to a valuable cultural experience, but the University of Oxford will provide a top notch education that will aid in the pursuit of my major, Biology. The University uses joint efforts from the Zoology and Plant Science department to teach about Biology. They also have a vast amount of resources available such as a Botanic Garden, University Museum, Wytham Woods, Herbarium, and Arboretum. The university uses a practical laboratory that in a vital part of the teaching process and allows a one-week field trip to Pembrokeshire to expand the knowledge of ecology. The field work that Oxford offers is just as important as the classroom education. They also allow students to complete their research projects in the field in the UK or other locations. Oxford University’s education world renowned, and that is not by chance. They will offer an educational experience that I have never had an opportunity to experience.

Studying for a semester in Europe, specifically England will provide an education opportunity that surpasses a classroom education. The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the world and will provide a valuable educational experience in my pursuit towards my biology major. It will also allow me to grow as an individual by experiencing a culture that is foreign to me. Living abroad offers an opportunity to understand differences and embrace them. The opportunity to study for a semester abroad is just that, an opportunity, and I would use the experience to not only learn, but to become a better more rounded version of myself.
