Consultation Model
The desire to die has become a common trend among youngsters especially that they have become more prone to engaging in culture that welcomes the idea of ending matters in their hands and making a determinable course of decision that would simply put everything else into an end. The current culture of the modern society that primarily embraces the concept of giving up usually mandates a determinable source of guilt over their own mistakes, prompting these young ones to desire to give up on matters as easy as ending their lives. Not seeing the real value that life has for them causes these young individuals to conquer life’s adversities under such negative solutions.
This is the reason why the need to establish a course of understanding on what each individual goes through is necessary in relation to determining a good suicide consultation model. This is why for this approach, the triangle model shall be given particular attention to. The triangle model consists of proper attention given to the intensity of an individual’s wish to die, the degree of planning that he puts into the work and the kind of amount of distress that he is dealing with.
Since the case being resolved involves students as young as the eighth grade, the approach shall include compulsory checkup among the individuals included in the list of those needing help. Since the population target is general, it would be much better if the help to be given would be general in form as well, which means that the students, whether or not they present symptoms of suicidal attempts shall be asked and checked with regards their current situations and the issues they are expected to deal with. This approach shall recognize the fact that at times, the suicidal attempts do not come out as vivid or as obvious as necessary; hence, given this particular fact, it should be considered that not all students who have suicidal attempts would be easy to pinpoint. This suggests that specific interviews and evaluation procedures should be taken into account to assess the overall condition of each student, thus spotting any possible emergence of suicidal conditions.
Level of Consultation
The case, involving young individuals, require close attention to what is meant by centralized condition of assistance given to the target clients. The students, who are being protected from developing any ideal plans of killing themselves or putting an end to their lives, should be given proper guidance and enlightenment on how to face the different challenges that life offers them. The client centered level of consultation shall allow the personnel involved in the process to focus on what the client specifically needs and not what the therapist assumes the problem be.
There are times when the only healing point among those who have developed particular conditions of aiming to kill themselves is that of the manner by which they are talked to, the way they are assisted to get their thoughts and their resentments out of themselves, therefore giving them the chance to become more involved in recreating a better picture of what life is for themselves. Seeing things positively apart from the negative feelings and thoughts they may have towards life, these individuals are able to take on a new step towards improving their way of living and setting aside the thoughts about death.
Consulting with a counselor is not an easy process to take into account. This is especially true among young individuals who are forced to face the different adversities in life while they are still trying to establish an identity for themselves. Practically, it would help if these individuals are given a better vision of what life has to offer them, that death, in anyway, would not solve anything. Allowing them to realize that the wrong belief about after life and the ease of ending everything else through death is a misunderstanding or a misconception of what the matter is all about shall provide them a better vision of what initiates good decisions instead of resorting to something drastic such as suicide.
Suicide Prevention Model
The suicide prevention model to be followed in this particular case resolution would be dedicated to assuming the position of a guidance counselor who provides distinct presentation on what life and death are about and how these two elements in life are the pillars of whatever a person is to become. One’s respect for life and for the gift it is ready to offer shall change the outlook that a young individual has even towards the supposedly most compelling and most challenging points in life that questions his capacity and willingness to thrive and survive.
The suicide prevention model shall take on a step-by-step approach in determining the problem, assessing how much it affects the life of the person[s] involved and how the capacity of the said people to live and embrace life is questioned accordingly. With the suicidal attempts kept into record, the counselors expected to help out the individuals being assisted in the process are notably given the chance to become more involved in the situation; seeing matters through the eyes of the individuals affected by the issue, shall give the counselors or the therapists a chance to make a mark on the being of each individual being assisted, thus changing their outlook in life completely.
The last part of the suicide prevention model is dedicated towards assuring that the individuals who had past symptoms of suicidal attempts shall be guided accordingly to not go back to the same path of decision making. Giving them the chance to see things more positively, the consideration over how these individuals are able to change their attitude and perception about life shall determine the long time effect of the counseling and therapy sessions that the individuals undergo.
Implementation of Model
To implement the model, the school should launch a pre-operational campaign, whereas the students are to be given the notice that they are to be invited to the school counselor’s office one-by-one and shall be interviewed accordingly regarding their current situation, their current concerns and the issues that they are dealing with. These one-on-one sessions shall allow the counselors to gauge how the current issues in school such as bullying could be contained and resolved accordingly. It is through this approach that the personnel involved in improving student decision-making would have a first-hand observation on what the students are going through and how well are they handling it. With this in mind, it is rather easier to take on the chance of helping the individuals needing assistance as they are given better options in life other than suicide.
After the general consultation comes the individual assessment and observation. Individuals who have shown symptoms of undergoing suicide attempts shall be treated accordingly through talk-therapy and medication [when necessary-especially for overtly depressed individuals]. With this approach in mind, it is also expected that the clients or the students would be able to change their views about the basic challenges that they shall face both in school and in life. Most importantly, it is through this approach that they would be guided accordingly to embrace optimism fully as their personal culture.
