Teaching Credential Essay Example

Essay

I have been inquisitive for as long as I remember and developed love for knowledge at an early age. I would often engage in intellectual discussions and the experiences made me realized I enjoyed teaching others as much as I enjoyed learning from them. Similarly, I come from a close-knit family with a huge emphasis on community service. Through volunteer experiences, I discovered I particularly enjoy working with children because the idea that I can help someone realize his/her true potential is a source of great comfort and pride. Due to frequent social interactions, I have also developed strong people and communication skills and am better able to understand others’ problems and put myself in others’ shoes. I believe children often struggle not because they don’t have potential but because teachers fail to understand the individual learning styles of children. As a teacher, I am determined to make each of my student feel important, understand and solve their problems, and inspire them to become the best they are capable of. Teaching job particularly appeals to me because it will allow me to be a role model to these children and provide them with a strong foundation for a successful future.

My academic and work experiences demonstrate the fact that I have had my eyes on a teaching career for quite a long time. I did my undergraduate in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Childhood Education and am currently working at a school where my responsibilities include aiding with instruction of 1st and 2nd grade students. I assist with group readings, assessments, and also provide one-to-one instruction to students requiring additional help. Working with these struggling students has made me even more determined to become an educator because their hard work inspires me to put in even more efforts to help them.

I have decided to pursue teaching credential program at Brandman University because due to my experiences during undergraduate, I feel right at home here. The university provides tremendous in-class and out-of-class learning opportunities and is specially accommodating towards working adults. I hope my academic experiences will again be as fulfilling as my undergraduate experiences.
