Rozie-Battle, J. L. (2002). African American Teens and the Neo-Juvenile Justice System. Journal of Health & Social Policy, 2002, Vol. 15 (2), p69-79, 11p.

The article’s author is a writer for the World Socialist Web site. The International Committee of the Fourth International published his work. Apparently, the intended purpose of the article is to capture the attention of America’s federal and state authorities concerning the state of affairs affecting children in American societies. In the article, the author reacts about statistics aired by America’s weekly CBS television. The author’s message is that there is an imminent predicament looming within the population of America schoolchildren (Seider, 2011, p. 342). He backs up his ideas with statistics postulated by the US Census Bureau reports, which estimates that in the near future, 25% of American children will be faced with poverty and homelessness.

Seider, S. (2011). The Role of Privilege as Identity in Adolescents’ Beliefs about Homelessness, Opportunity, and Inequality. Youth & Society, Vol. 43 (1). p333-364.

In her article, Seider writes with an intention of reaching teachers and school administrators on issues affecting school going teenagers in the society. She categorically indicates the effects of poverty and homelessness among teenagers (Seider, 2011, P.340). In addition, Seider highlights how these effects influence teenage development into adulthood. The article extends its scope into acknowledging the role of a program dubbed “Opening Doors,” which a federal initiative in Obama’s administration, aiming at preventing and ending homelessness within a period of 10 years.

Rouse, H., Fantuzzo, J., & LeBoeuf, W. (2011). Comprehensive Challenges for the Well Being of Young Children: A Population-based Study of Publicly Monitored Risks in a Large Urban Center. Child & Youth Care Forum, Aug2011, Vol. 40 (4), p281-302, 22p.

The authors write for Buzzle, a US social website involved in highlighting economic and social issues at federal levels. The authors base their writing on an economic report provided by the World Bank in 2008. The information contained in the report indicates that there was minimal poverty reduction in the US over the last two decades. The writers highlight statistics showing an increase in the number of homeless adults and teenagers in major cities like Detroit, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas (Rouse et al, 2011, p.290). The article says that 1 out of every 5 children in the cities lives in poverty, compared to 1 out of every 7 adults in the same settings. In this regard, the nation’s economic structure predisposes children and teenagers to poverty and homelessness.
