The American Colonists, Essay Example

American history may refer to the opening story of the country as well as the citizens of the United States of America that are attributed to the American Colonists. This concept consists of pride for the country, its history, and its unique culture. It all started with the American Revolutionary war. The war began in 1775 when the American people broke away from England in desire of their independence to start their own nation. With the American colony being led by General George Washington, the bloody war took lasted for eight years where General Cornwallis and the Kingdom of England finally surrendered in 1783. The aftermath of the war led to the signing of the US Constitution on September 17, 1787, where it was ratified the next year. The US Constitution represented as well as established the freedom and civil liberties for the new American nation and the American people who had won their independence from England. However, there were many underlying factors that heavily influenced the events leading up to the American Revolution. Much of the struggle for power and feud between the British government and the American colonists started before the American Revolutionary War.

The American colonist felt justified in breaking away from Britain to form their own new nation. However between 1763 and 1765, Thomas Whatley felt that American colonist should contribute higher taxes to the British Parliament. Whatley defended his position on levying higher taxes on American colonists by expressing that it would be appropriate for them to show thanks for the privileges they received following the French and Indian War.

According to John Dickinson, Parliament was justified on imposing taxes on the colonies to hold legal authority over trade regulations between Great Britain and the colonies. Dickinson objected to the Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts with the intent of imposing duties on the American Colonist in order to drive up revenues.

The engraved picture shows a story of angry soldiers firing at innocent American colonists for no apparent reason. The description however, suggests that the British soldiers were acting in self-defense as they felt threatened by the Boston boys and men taunting and harassing them.

The term “massacre” by definition refers to an ugly and unnecessary slaughtering of a large number of people stemming from persecution or revenge. The term “Boston Massacre” fits the events that took place on this day.

Nicholas Cresswell blamed the King for his unethical authority and the way he treated the American colonists. This was suggested in his journal entry dated October 19, 1774. The Americans were justified in fighting the British because they wanted their own independence, which the British government would not allow. The British wanted to maintain control over the American colonists’ freedom, which was why the American colonists had to fight for their freedom.

Thomas Paine was unwilling to reconcile with the British people because he felt that they could not undo all of the pain and suffering they caused. Paine was not an objective and unbiased reporter in this entry because this writing was clearly driven by his personal emotions.

The excerpt from the Declaration of Independence clearly describes King George as a tyrant. The Declaration was objective and unbiased because it was not stemming from emotions, but from facts and basic human rights.
