The CIA Drug Distributions, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 323

Essay

Available statistics indicate that over a period of 40 years, the operations in CIA has been paid with money derived from the sales of heroin along with cocaine. Anybody caring about current updates has information to the effect that the CIA is deeply entangled in global trafficking of hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine, an activity that has been going on since 1980’s (Bertram, et.al, 1996). The drugs have reaped huge profits which have been used to finance the activities if CIA as well as the military.

This issue has remained unknown to many because the major players in media in the US have offered protection to the agency with the objectives of keeping the public in total darkness regarding the nature of these activities. The CIA has worked in close association with the media to make sure that this issue does not surface to the public domain (Baum, 1996).

Due to the illegal nature of the drugs, their supply is associated with extremely huge margins of profits and any efforts to legalize the drugs would be consequential to the elimination of the huge profits associated with the trade in the drugs. The greater part of the information about the drug deals in the CIA is available in videos, some articles, audiotapes and books but there have been deliberate efforts by the media to conceal the information (Baum, 1996). This is a real situation although a common slogan holds that if an issue is not aired in TV’s then it is not a reality. On the other hand, the agencies responsible to wage war on drugs have made all the efforts of maintaining the illegality of these drugs in an efforts with the aim of maintain the abnormal profits associated with the drugs.
