The Consultant Chapter 1 and 2, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 275

Essay

Chapter One

Becoming successful, according to the author, is not about chasing money. Small decisions lead to a balanced lifestyle that includes having enough money and having time to spend it on things that matter for people.

It is not enough to “do the job” and become a consultant: becoming the person one wants to be is also very crucial for success.

Working less and doing what one likes doing to improve themselves has its disadvantages. Sometimes people worry that they do not save enough for rainy days, the future of the business. However, one needs to make sure that they do not “burn out” and get rewards from consulting work.

Initially, people would need to work more to be able to work less and still pay their bills. Building up a business is the hard task; maintaining customer base and serving clients doesn’t take that much time, but is still rewarding, provided that the person enjoys life and has  personal time.

Chapter Two

When starting a consulting business, one needs to understand and “become” the role that is expected by customers. Learning through experience to become the consultant that customers need and value is the hardest task.

Every person starting up a consulting business should complete a self-assessment. Understanding our values is the key to successfully communicate the benefits our work can bring to clients. Clients’ perception about us should match our self-assessment results.

Work and consulting profile should be chosen based on the self-assessment and personality of the individual. Further, learning needs need to be established based on the selected path along with strengths and vulnerabilities.
