The Doctrine of Salvation and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Reaction Paper Example

Acts 2:1-4 speaks of when the “day of the Pentecost came and the Heavens filled the Earth and gave the gift of speaking in tongues to people.” (Arrington, 2007). Jesus’ Resurrection made it possible for victory over sin and death through the forces of the Holy Spirit as depicted in Luke 24:49 and Acts 1:8. This was the beginning of the depiction of the Doctrine of Salvation as denoted by Yung Chui Han beliefs.

Luke 4:18 expresses the true meaning of living without sin and without oppression. Andrew Sung Park wishes to produce a ‘haanless’ society in which there will be a perfect society free of sin. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the commencement of this new sinless society. This follows the minjung of Revelations 21:3 where there will be a new heavens and Earth. “There will be no more death and Christ will wipe away the tears of all who cry or are in pain.” (Son, 2000).

Romans 8:11 depicted the overwhelming fallacy that the followers of Jesus would see for themselves that Jesus would be raised from the dead on the Resurrection. Jesus would act as “an agent for God for the dying souls on Earth and hope to bring them to living closer to that of Jesus himself.” (Arrington, 2007).

The Doctrine of Salvation is based on the principle “There is an indissoluble union of law and gospel, of justification and sanctification.”(LaRondelle, 2010). There in an innate waning to pardon sins and restore the soul to a pureness that God would want the person to be like, Godly like himself. God gives forgiveness for sins if the sinner repents and asks for forgiveness. “Thus there are three aspects of salvation: justification, sanctification, glorification, all comprehended in the fullness of the everlasting gospel which God of Christ in glory (Revelation 14:6-12: Titus 2:11-14; 1 Thessalonians 5:23).”(LaRondelle, 2010).

The Apostle Paul speaks of salvation as eternal transformation through the blessings of God through the light and speaks of the doctrine as a multifaceted doctrine. Paul praised God as the initiator of salvation of Christians (1:12). Paul felt that salvation is given in the form of family blessings. (House, 1994). God is the one and only God and he will send his one and only son Jesus Christ for the second time to Earth so that mankind will have salvation restored upon them. There are certain guidelines of daily conduct which lead to mankind’s everlasting life in heaven. This doctrine helps protect us and guides us through life in order to achieve the rapports that God has to beseech upon us after death.

The Cross is a symbol of God’s wishes to save sinners of the world. The Cross is there to make us understand the problem of sin and the real meaning of how we can rid yourself of sin. Salvation is a gift from God by the grace of God and by no way can it be earned. “Hebrews 2:9 specifically states that God made Jesus lower than the angels so that he could feel the pain and agony for everyone and taste the death for everyone.” (Arrington, 2007). Much of this was based on the early religious beliefs and sacrifices of the Israelites who gave rise to weekly and yearly religious sacrifices to show their love and patronage to God.

People on Earth cannot even begin to realize the separation that God the Father and Jesus the Son felt upon separation of each other. There was a massive fellowship that stood tall apart from the Heavens and the Earth and a huge sacrifice that was given for the salvation of people on Earth.

The early Doctrine of Salvation was presented in English religion by Hooker during Reformation in which sermons continued. “They commenced from the early reigns of Henry VIII to the first years of the reign of Elizabeth I.” (Simut, 2005). It is important to note that the Protestant Religion borrowed much of its views from the Lutheran religion. Forgiveness of sins and repentance were borrowed from the early teachings of the English protestant theologians. “Justification of salvation was not man-made but based on God. The desire to do well is brought upon by an internal desire to be saved by God.

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

“Weeks prior to the Pentecost Jesus had been prosecuted and crucified and raised from the dead according to Act 2.” (Macchia, 2007). It is after this that Jesus was able to proclaim his victory over sin and death. Jesus made this experience a ‘baptism of the Holy Spirit’ for his followers that stayed back in Jerusalem. This was used to reference the coming of the Messiah according to John the Baptist.

John saw that the end could not come with a beautiful and cleansed paradise without great suffering. John was precursor to the new age of baptism and salvation. It was established that one had to pass through the Spirit and the fire in order to receive the coming of one’s Baptism. “The Spirit of the Baptism would enable the people to experience the Holy Spirit and the Baptism as foretold by John the Baptist.” (Arrington, 2007).

A person must be ready and able to accept the true suffering that Christ has in store for him in order to accept Baptism must have a true divine love for his brothers and sisters and be ready to honor and obey God without regard to what the entire world throws his way. The Lord is willing to wash away our sins through the sacrament of Baptism. A person must accept the Lord and be willing to live by his way. God renews everyone’s faith and gives everyone another chance through the use of the Holy Spirit. “One should be willing to give up his will and do the will of God.” (Dunn, 1970). Having faith in God through the Holy Spirit is what will deliver a man righteousness to become right with God. God reveals his righteousness through suffering on the cross so that sins may be forgiven. God chooses to remove sin from a person who truly asks for his help but if a person continues to disobey God then God’s wrath will be showered on that such person.

A person will struggle constantly against sin because Adam and Eve made our lives imperfect. God will test us in many ways in order to determine if we are worthy of his forgiveness. In Mathew and Luke it was often spoke of righteousness and obedience to the father in order to gain salvation.

It is through the grace of God or Jesus Christ. “Christ has been crucified once and has many bodies within himself.” (Hun, 2006). Only those who are able to account for their faith should be baptized through the name of the Lord and the Holy Spirit.

Hans challenges the ordinary status quo of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the Trinity of the Holy Spirit. He wanted to take a look at the church from the viewpoint as a whole of the New Testament. His book uses primarily Scripture and only some sources of the Gospel of the Lord. He writes, “All too easily the Church can become a prisoner for the image it has made for itself at one particular period in history.” (“Review of the Church by Hans Kung”). Baptism is based on the ability and willingness to learn and express the whole truth. There must be a total commitment to God and the Holy Spirit prior to baptism to be saved from original sin. God loves everyone and accepts us as we are. He allows us to make mistakes and rebukes us from our sins if we ask honestly for forgiveness. “The original churches spread the world of the Lord through the work of the Holy Spirit.”  (“Review of the Work by Hans Kung”). After Baptism, each person has the true ability to take place in the Eucharist, teach others the word of the Lord and make preparations for other sacraments of the Lord. This is given through the grace of the Holy Spirit.

The Pentecostals hope to give rise to all to surpass the normal boundaries in Baptism and give worship to God with no boundaries full of love and with no hidden agenda and no revisions.
