Essay

The educator’s values are often the backbone of his or her professional development and practice. I am sure that an educator can be successful in the classroom only in case he or she knows exactly what the aim of studying is; this aim should go far beyond the formal compliance with the educational curriculum, or passing the standardized tests. A true educator should strive to achieving the level of understanding of the educational process from the perspective of learners, and adapting the learning process to their needs, wants, and abilities. It is obvious that the body of knowledge is objectively large, and it exists not depending on the people who master it to a certain extent. Hence, I believe that every person can and should learn; however, the choice of knowledge for learning is purely individual, and even within the framework of a stringent curriculum, both students and teachers make their choices regarding what to emphasize, what to pay more attention to, and what to neglect as the excessive and unnecessary data. Hence, my core value as that of an educator is to create the awareness of the knowledge value for students, leaving the further choice depending on the intrinsic motivation to them.

The educators’ core values usually depend on their understanding of the formal learning, and the extent to which it should occupy the learning space in the classroom. I respect the national recommendations, and do my best to help my students advance in the subjects they are entitled to know to progress to further grades, and to complete their schooling successfully. However, I also believe that every subject is of varying interest for certain learners, and I have to be flexible and sensitive enough to detect the individual interests, and to help students explore the subjects of interest at their own pace. The key task of the educator is to instill the value and importance of knowledge in the hearts and minds of students, since education is a lifelong learning process, so motivation for studying has to become an integral part of the educational approach of all students. Further educational work is still done independently – we as educators can guide students, but we cannot trace their completion of homework, their individual reading and research. Hence, educators’ core values should pertain to flexible, adaptable, and varied instruction in the classroom.
