Introduction
Children who suffer from allergies on a regular basis often experience problems associated with academic performance in the school environment. This results in a potentially serious problem for this population and whether or not they are able to maintain a favorable academic standing while experiencing a variety of symptoms that may keep them away from school for periods of time. As a result of these circumstances, it is important to evaluate this problem and to determine its impact on school age children. There are a number of factors to consider, including academic performance, occurrence of symptoms, number of absences, parental support, and teacher guidance, among other concerns. Therefore, the most viable means of evaluating this problem requires the collection of data that will be utilized to determine the extent of this impact and how it influences children who face frequent problems associated with allergies while attending school.
Evaluation Methods
In order to establish an effective understanding of allergies in the lives of children and their school performance, it is likely that a questionnaire instrument will obtain important data that will be relevant in determining this relationship and how it impacts children in the school setting. It is necessary to establish a precedent that will facilitate possible strategies to address relevant concerns of parents and teachers of children with allergies. Therefore, the questionnaire will be necessary in order to determine how to identify these needs and establish a framework for improving academic performance for children with allergies. Parents, teachers, and other school personnel work with these children on a daily basis; therefore, they possess the knowledge and wherewithal to determine how to improve academic consistency and reduce the impact of allergies on their examinations, homework assignments, and overall grades. The questionnaire instrument must convey the importance of different concerns that are likely to occur for students with allergies. The questions must specifically gauge the importance of this topic and its relevance to teachers and parents who have direct experience with students suffering from allergies. This evaluation must demonstrate whether or not academic performance is affected at a sufficient level to warrant further evaluation.
Reliability and Validity
The proposed questionnaire instrument must be reliable and valid in its contents and its measurability. Therefore, it must not demonstrate any type of bias and the questions should not be leading or directed towards a biased response. With this in mind, the proposed questionnaire will not aim to convey any type of bias. Furthermore, the questionnaire must reflect stable responses that are consistent. In other words, if the questionnaire were redistributed to the same population, the second set of responses should be consistent with the first. This will facilitate realistic and truthful responses to the questions that have been asked. In addition, the content of the questionnaire must be valid and align with the objectives that are sought, along with the ability to convey the desired responses in a timely manner that will facilitate favorable results. Most importantly, the questionnaire must convey the relevant issues that are under consideration and that provide a greater understanding of the challenges that are likely to be encountered in real life classroom situations.
Maintaining Integrity of Data
The proposed questionnaire must demonstrate the importance of the study objectives and in determining the relevance of allergies in the school age population and their influence on school performance. Under these conditions, it is important to identify the resources that are required to ensure that the data collected is valid, appropriate for the study, and indicative of a positive result. Therefore, data collection techniques must protect the data in question until the study is completed. The data collection method that is chosen for the study must convey truthful data that is derived in a consistent manner. Data integrity is critical to the overall validity of the study and the potential use of the data for future purposes. Therefore, it must be properly stored and protected from any unnecessary or inappropriate infringement from unauthorized persons. Proper data collection techniques are critical to the success of a research study and in determining whether or not the data is useful and has any real purpose in supporting future research studies.
Research Design
The proposed research design involves a questionnaire instrument that must clearly convey the objectives of the study and its purpose in an effective manner. This requires a greater understanding of the challenges and considerations of the design and its overall impact on the subject matter. The proposed questionnaire must be properly worded and provide insight into the topic in question without any form of bias. All questions must be professionally written and easily understood by participants. In addition, their content must demonstrate the importance of the topic in question and in supporting the desired outcomes to enhance learning and improve performance for students who experience problems associated with allergies. This is a critical factor in facilitating the overall effectiveness of the research design and the potential outcomes that may emerge from the study. The research design must also demonstrate that it is detailed and thorough in the questions that are asked and the responses that are requested. Most importantly, the questionnaire must provide a basis for exploring new insights into the growth of the topic and to develop strategies to support student learning when allergies may be a limiting factor in this process.
Research Methods
The proposed research method must demonstrate the importance of the topic and its primary focus. Therefore, a correlational research method is appropriate in this example and supports a greater understanding of the challenges that children face in the classroom setting when allergies are a factor in their school lives. The two primary variables to consider are evidence of allergies and related symptoms, as well as level of school performance for students under these conditions. It is important to identify these variables and to gauge their relevance in the context of the questionnaire so that the desired responses are obtained from the chosen participant population.
Why I Chose Research Methods
The correlational research method is appropriate in this case because it offers a comparison of two variables that appear to be related to each other in a unique manner. These concerns are relevant because they may provide an improved understanding of the challenges that students face as they experience allergies and related symptoms. By addressing these concerns using feedback from teachers and parents, it is possible that additional issues will be introduced and supported by evidence in order to accomplish new objectives to enhance student outcomes. Furthermore, this research method enables the researcher to determine if there is a specific and direct relationship between allergies and academic performance because this may shed some light on the issues that are most relevant to students, teachers, and parents in addressing allergies on a regular basis. This is a challenging yet appropriate relationship to consider, given the issues that often emerge in the classroom when these students struggle academically in balancing their allergies and their school assignments in the classroom setting and in the home environment.
Study Participants
For this research study, the participants must be able to provide a relevant contribution to the overall study and research direction. Therefore, the chosen participants must have direct experience with children who suffer from allergies and related symptoms on a regular basis. This will ensure that they are properly considered and provided with an environment to stimulate learning and academic growth. Chosen participants will not be excluded on the basis of age, race, gender, or culture. All parents of students at the selected school, as well as teachers and other school personnel, will all be considered for participation in the study to facilitate a variety of responses. This will also enable the researcher to gauge if there are any specific patterns in the responses that are worthy of further evaluation. All participation is voluntary and all participants will be asked to provide their consent to participate. In addition, they may withdraw from the study at any time for any reason.
Conclusion
This research study also requires full support from the principal prior to participant selection and rolling out the study to the desired participants. This is an important step towards ensuring study validity and appropriateness for the desired population. The principal must also support the concept in question and the objectives that are sought so that the study is likely to achieve the desired outcomes. These issues will be addressed prior to obtaining consent from participants and distributing the questionnaire to the chosen population. This process requires an important understanding of the school environment and the challenges that might be encountered during study implementation, as well as the issues that might not be anticipated upon retrieval of the study results.
