The Future of Leadership in Learning Organizations, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 314

Essay

I currently work in an organization that focuses on family and patient centered care as the primary organizational approach. In addition, transformational leadership practices are implemented in a manner that allows each member of the obstetrical nursing to develop their knowledge and practical skills. My organization is aware that it is helpful to include families in the decision making process regarding treatment options to enhance the satisfaction of the decisions that are made. In addition, the supervisory staff implements transformational leadership to ensure that each employee is able to grow and participate in activities based on their individual capabilities (Bernard, 2000).

The implementation of family and patient centered care in addition to transformational leadership allows the health care institution as a whole to grow. As a consequence of these initiatives, quality improvement and patient safety have been enhanced significantly (Gill, 2013). Furthermore, these efforts create a positive organizational culture that develops the ability of the staff to work together as a team independently of the shifts they typically serve. As a result, communication between shifts have improved which contributes to the quality of care that patients in the ward are receiving. Since all members of the team are in agreement with regards to how records should be kept and how problems should be addressed, the nurses are able to efficiently work with a large number of patients each day. These efforts are supported by including patients and families in major medical decisions and providing these individuals with professional support from a large group of nurses. This leadership and organizational model demonstrates that the health care institution clearly benefits from such an extensive mode of health collaboration.
