The Future of Nursing, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 362

Essay

The future of nursing report created by the Institute of Medicine represents a challenging and complex set of approaches to improve nursing practice and transform the profession in positive ways to meet its objectives. There must be a greater emphasis on the development of key strategies that will influence outcomes and which will encourage and support nurses in their efforts to improve nursing practice and expand initiatives to improve quality of life for many patients. This reflects the critical priorities of the IOM in order to ensure that nurses administer the care and treatment that is necessary to expand the priorities and improve knowledge and research-based scholarship within the profession across many different areas.

One of the most important areas of consideration is for nurses to effectively collaborate with other specialty areas in order to address the priorities of the healthcare system and in improving the design of this system in order to accommodate the ever-changing needs of patient care and treatment (IOM, 2010). In addition, the expansion of educational guidelines and requirements for nurses at all levels reflects the critical importance of shaping an environment in which there are significant opportunities for growth and development that will positively impact patients (American Nurses Association, 2015). It is expected that these priorities and recommendations will continue to expand in future years in order to accommodate the challenges of providing access to healthcare services to millions of Americans who have not had access to these resources in the past. It is necessary to address these priorities as part of a larger framework in order to accomplish the objectives of the profession in a manner that is consistent with the key priorities of healthcare practice and in supporting improvements in quality of life for many patients. The emphasis must be on quality improvement and to educate nurses at a higher level, exploring new ideas and strategies to improve leadership and the clinical capacity of nurses to administer high quality care and treatment on a consistent basis.
