The Future of Public, Essay Example

Essay

In his article, John M. Bryson discusses the future of public and nonprofit strategic planning in the United States (Bryson, 2010). Of primary importance, he notes that strategic planning will serve as an advantage to an organization by providing direct benefits for the people involved and by enhancing organizational effectiveness. Both of these characteristics are important because it will improve the overall image of the organization in addition to producing greater profitability in terms of monetary gain or social good.

Strategic planning will help to provide direct benefits for both the employees of an organization in addition to their customers or those they serve. Planning allows for a greater degree of organization, which cuts waste and optimizes both the money and time spent working on particular projects. On the consumer’s end, this may result in a less expensive product or service that has higher quality. Therefore, everyone benefits in this situation.

In addition, enhancing organizational effectiveness is tied closely to this principle. This indicator of success becomes increasingly possible when members of an organization are able to enact aspects of their mission in all aspects of the work they do. Ultimately, this results in better performance, leading to better outcomes. This is desirable because it provides a feedback loop that causes the success of the organization. When employees believe that they are performing well, they are more likely to act more efficiently and produce goods or services of higher quality. Thus, creating a culture of success is beneficial for the employees, the quality of the good or service, and the customer, who ultimately benefits at the end of this chain.
