Reaction Paper

The history of the Negro’s revolution is broad, unknown, and inspiring. They revolted in Africa against the slavers on the Atlantic passage and the plantations. This revolt brings about different definitions of terms such as revolt, civil war, and unrest. (Coleman 1836) These definitions, as seen from James’s “Revolution and the Negro” are all discussed.

The Negro slaves revolted in several ways. They jumped from ships, went on strikes, and even attacked their crews. In the records, at one point, the slaves overcame their crew and steered the ship to harbor. During the 18th century, the slaves also revolted in British Guiana and took over the Dutch colony. They then held it for years. They then forced the white people to sign peace treaties after withdrawing to the interior. This revolt has made them free up to date. The Negro slaves bring a definition of revolt, which can be said to be rebellion against the oppressors.

A definition for revolution can also be derived from the history of the Negro’s revolution. The French colonialist’s trade equaled eleven million pounds in 1789. This amount was two-thirds of France’s overseas trade. During this time, the British colonial trade equaled to five million pounds only. There was an abolitionist society in which famous men such as Mirabeau, Brissot, Condorcet, and many others existed even before 1789. These liberals were willing to compromise. They were ready to leave a half million slaves in their slavery so that the men of the property called the Mullatos and the slaves and education should have equivalent rights to the white colonials. The white colonials denied this. They refused to change anything that would lower their political and social denomination. Since the maritime bourgeoisie was interested in their many investments, they supported the colonialists. However, the radical politicians were helpless, and they were also not supporting the annual eleven million trade. This act was a revolution, and it helped them move from behind to forward. The slaves were also threatened, but they choose not to listen to the threateners. This made some of them be punished. However, revolution enabled them to transform into heroes. From the above case, a definition of revolution can be derived. It can be defined as a gradual change from one state to another. It is a process of movement from worse to better or from better to best.

Civil war is also described in the Negro’s slavery, from which we can derive a definition. The beginning of the European revolutions all over the world was beginning around 1849. The Mexican civil started in 1858, and the Juarez won three years after the war began. A large number of Negros were fighting in the south with the hope that they would acquire their freedom. They not only fought with exemplary discipline and coolness but also with extreme bravery. Most of them were overwhelmed with extreme pride but were all fighting for one purpose, equality. It was a protest against discrimination. From the above, civil war can now be defined. It is true to say that civil war is a state of rivalry between two parties in the fight for their rights, power, or such related needs.

In conclusion, the history of the Negro’s revolution is broad, unknown, and inspiring. They revolted in Africa against the slavers on the Atlantic passage and on the plantations. This revolt brings about different definitions of terms such as revolt, civil war, and unrest.
