The Importance of Recycling Paper, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 300

Essay

More than 2000 pounds of paper and 90,000,000 cubic yards of landfill space can be saved each year by recycling (Recycling Revolution). Recycling is the process by which used goods are repurposed instead of disposed of. Environmentalists argue that recycling is necessary because it will ensure that we are able to protect the planet’s resources. Ultimately, recycling paper is important because it helps us preserve trees that deliver us with oxygen and will ensure that we have a continuous supply of paper products.

Recycling is important because it helps increase the amount of oxygen that is available in our environment. Since people need oxygen to breathe, it is in our best interest to reduce damage to plants. 4 billion trees are cut down each year to meet the worlds’ paper needs (Rainforest Maker). If we continue at this rate, we will deplete our own oxygen supply, contributing to disease and devastation. It is therefore our responsibility to protect trees so that we are able to have both oxygen and access to paper products, thanks to recycling.

Some people believe that recycling isn’t important because we can just grow more trees. However, some species of tree take more than 10 years to grow to their adult height. Thus, doing wouldn’t help trees recover at a rapid rate. It is therefore preferable to avoid cutting these trees down in the first place and use recycled paper products instead.

In conclusion, it is our responsibility to support the trees on this planet. Without our intervention, they will be removed from existence. Thus, you can play a part by purchasing recycled paper goods and spreading knowledge of the importance of plant life preservation to others. Together, we can make a difference!
